The Paul Fulton Memorial
Award Fund is an endowment established at Marietta
College by members of the Southeastern Ohio Oil and
Gas Association and friends of the late Paul Fulton.
Paul Fulton was the owner of the Rampp Company in
Marietta and a long time member of the Southeastern
Ohio Oil and Gas Association.
The Paul Fulton Memorial
Award Fund provides grant support for student
research or studies of particular interest to the
oil and gas industry in Southeastern Ohio.
Generally, four research grant awards of $500 each
are made annually to Marietta College juniors
majoring in Petroleum Engineering or Geology. Grant
funds are to be used for expenses associated with
the research project. The grants are awarded
directly to the student recipients and are not
included in other college scholarships or financial
aid.
Interested students
should submit a 250 word synopsis and outline of a
proposed research project or study which will result
in a research paper. The proposed project should
focus on the use of a process, procedure, study or
analysis of reservoir data, production data or
geologic conditions in the Appalachian Basin which
would be of special interest to the oil and gas
industry in Southeastern Ohio or closely related
geographic regions.
The synopsis and outline
of proposed projects are submitted to the Chairman
of the Department of Petroleum Engineering by March
20th of an applicant's junior year. All proposed
projects are reviewed by the Paul Fulton committee
of the Southeastern Ohio Oil and Gas Association.
The committee will select the award recipients.
The recipients of the
Paul Fulton Memorial Award Fund must complete their
projects by March 20th of their senior year. The
completed projects will be reviewed by the Paul
Fulton Committee of Southeastern Ohio Oil and Gas
Association. The committee will select the best
project. The senior submitting the best project will
be recognized at the annual spring meeting of the
Society of Petroleum Engineers and will receive an
additional cash award of $1750 for first place,
$1250 for second place, $750 for third place, and
$500 for fourth place.
